Upgrades on the Sofala road west of Ilford is set to commence from today.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole says the re-seal works along a 3.5-kilometre section of Ilford Sofala Road, about five kilometres west of Ilford, is sorely needed, as the road is a popular link for residents and tourists between Ilford and Sofala.

The upgrade will improve the road surface and drainage, as well as widen the road shoulders.

The new surface will also improve drainage to stop water from pooling on the road, and will also reduce future maintenance costs.

The NSW Government has provided $931,000 under the resealing improvement program to deliver the project.

Work will start on Monday, 22 June and will take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, and may include work between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays with a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h in place for the safety of workers and road users.
