The Rural Fire Service are reminding landholders of their obligations when undertaking a burn on their property following a tree fire at St Fillians yesterday.

The RFS report that the fire is likely the result of recent pile burning on the property.

Outside of the Bush Fire Danger Period the RFS say that prior to lighting you must provide the Cudgegong District Fire Control Centre and all adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours notice of your intention to burn.

Notifying the Cudgegong District Fire Control Centre can be done by SMS, Email, Phone or Social Media.

Failure to notify can result in substantial fines and prison terms for persons found to be in breach of the Rural Fires Act 1997 and its Regulations

You can contact the local RFS via the following

SMS - 0408 116 465

Email - Cudgegong.FCC@rfs.nsw.gov.au

Social Media - m.me/NSWRFSCudgegong

Phone - 02 6372 4434 (business hours only)

When submitting a notification, landholders must include:

- Full Name

- Address (and Property Name if applicable)
