NRL Returns But Bush League In Question

The Return of the NRL this week has been described as 'great news' for sport fans; however, the return of bush football could still be a way off.

Channel Nine's Ray Warren told 2MG that while the major league relies on TV’s agreements to help finance the game, that same TV deal is not helping footy in the bush.

“Without the TV deal, you have no game, and one of the great enemies of bush football is the TV” he says.

“The main thing is that you can sit at home all Sunday and watch footy on TV, and that doesn’t help games in the bush get a crowd through the gate”

Rab’s says the other main issue facing the game is the employer.

“You can’t keep employing people who may not turn up for work on Monday through injury”.

He asks if bush leagues can afford to insure their players against injury and wages.
