Council has secured a Federal Government grant for the development of the Cultural Precinct based around the new Mudgee Gallery.

Member for Calare announced the additional $1.5 million in funding on site on Friday afternoon, saying this kind of development is critical for the continued growth of this region.

“People moving to the area look at schools, jobs and what else a region has on offer” Mr Gee said.

He likened the development to the Arts equivalent of Glen Willow, that it will be the envy of other areas once completed.

Council says the extra funding means the full precinct plan can be done, with workshops and artist in residence areas complimenting the new gallery and tourism centre.

Simon Jones, Director Community at Council, says things will now be moving quickly on the project, with the tender process already having been completed, and expects works to be seen to commence in July.

Mayor Des Kennedy praised the support the region has received from the Federal Government.
