Mis-using Waste Transfer Stations

Post date: Jun 10, 2020 12:58:25 AM

Council is reminding residents that misuse of its Rural Waste Transfer Stations is an offence, after a Mid-Western Region man was fined for illegal dumping at the Cooyal Rural Waste Transfer Station.

The man was issued a $4000 penalty notice under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act for unlawful transporting or depositing of waste.

He was witnessed by a member of the public dumping tyres, building and general waste at the Cooyal facility in February and a Council investigation followed.

Councils General Manager Brad Cam reminded residents it is free for all residents to dispose of residential waste, including green waste and bulky goods, at the Mudgee, Gulgong and Kandos Waste Facilities.

Council has locked Transfer Stations in Bylong, Birriwa and Goolma with success, and should dumping continue this is something Council will consider for all its sites and keys will only be provided to eligible rural households.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to contact Council if they have questions about waste disposal.

If you witness dumping at a Rural Waste Transfer Station please report it to Council on 6378 2850.
