A truck driver had a lucky escape in the early hours of yesterday morning following a rollover on the Castlereagh highway.

The incident occurred around 2.15am, with the road fully closed in both directions for most of the morning.

The Driver, a 57 year old man from Horsley Park walked away with minimal injuries, the clean-up of the load of steel that spilled onto the road, and the removal of his load took some time to complete, with the highway fully open shortly after 11.30am.

The truck carrying 20 tonnes of steel had rolled whilst negotiating a bend.

As a result 600 litres of diesel had ruptured and spilled in a 300m area.

Quick work by crews prevented the diesel entering nearby waterways. Over the next 6 hours, 120 bags of absorbent was used to clean up the spill.
