Children and adults in wheelchairs can now experience the joy of being pushed on a swing at the park with Mid-Western Regional Council installing a Liberty Swing in Robertson Park Mudgee.

The Liberty Swing provides those in wheelchairs, the elderly and those with disabilities the chance to swing.

The installation of the Liberty Swing has recently been completed following community requests as part of Council’s budgeting process, with local father Bill Murphy submitting a Community Plan Proposal for the swing after discovering the purpose designed piece of equipment in another area whilst on a family holiday with daughter Georgia who is in a wheelchair.

He says that This gives Georgia the opportunity to swing like everyone else.

Council’s General Manager Brad Cam says the Liberty Swing will be a well-used piece of play equipment for residents of the whole region and Council is proud to complete this project that began as a request from a resident.

The Robertson Park Liberty Swing is now open to the public, with an access key available from Council’s Customer Service Centre or Mudgee Region Tourism, or the swing also accessible with an MLAK key for those residents who have their own.
