Less smokers in our region

Latest data reveals our region is among areas in Western NSW that has recorded the biggest reduction in daily smoking rates across the State’s Primary health network.

On a State level, last year NSW smoking rates hit a record low of 9.5%.

Data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s National Drug Strategy Household Survey, showed while Western NSW still has the highest number of daily smokers (15.2%), the area recorded the biggest drop since 2016 (4.4%).

The national data showed the number of daily smokers aged over 14 has fallen significantly since 2016, with now only 11 per cent of Australians now smoking.
