Glen Willow Stage 2 underway

Construction of the second stage of the Glen Willow Sporting Complex officially commenced yesterday, with Mayor of the Mid-Western Region, Des Kennedy turning the first sod alongside Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee.

Mr Gee says the facility has a major impact on our region Since construction of Stage 1 in 2012, more than 160,000 spectators have attended major sporting events through to local games at Glen Willow, with a further 8,000 locals participating in sport at the venue each year.

Mr Gee and Council secured $6.95 million through the Federal Government's Building Better Region's Fund - Infrastructure Projects stream to deliver the $13.9 million project.

Mayor Kennedy says the expansion will increase capacity of the complex and its ability to host more games and major carnivals.

“Expansion plans include two junior rugby league playing fields, two rugby union fields, two multi-purpose fields, a junior rugby league amenities building, rugby union amenities building as well as infrastructure including car parking facilities, roads, lighting and fencing,” Cr Kennedy said.

Construction of Stage 2 is expected to take approximately eight months.
