Early Mid-Western Regional Council Meeting
Post date: Jul 1, 2020 9:13:07 PM
Mid-Western Regional Council held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday afternoon, where the 2020/21 operational plan and delivery program was adopted.
The plan sets the rates & charges that Council will use for this current financial year, with council adopting a flat 2.6% across the board rate increase.
As with previous years, a number of councillors, including Cr Martens lobbied for a 0% increase in farmland rates, and other categories to absorb the higher increases.
Mayor Kennedy pointed out that the Minerals Council had put in their submission that mining rates now accounts for around 40% of total rate income for the council, having increased from around 12% several years ago.
Several Councillors also took exception to the timing of them getting their required paperwork for the meeting, with Cr Holden & Cr Karavas refusing to vote on the plan, leaving the chambers prior to the vote.
The Operation plan passed 5/2, with Crs Martens & Thompson voting against it.
