Planned Power Outages Across The Central Tablelands

posted May 19, 2020, 2:23 PM by 2MG Real FM
More than 1000 homes and businesses between Ulan and Dunedoo, Gulgong and Mudgee will be affected by a planned power outage this Sunday & Monday.

Essential Energy say that the outage will be from 11.45pm Sunday until 6.00am on Monday, to enable maintenance work to be safely completed on the Ulan electrical zone substation

Their Operations Manager Macquarie, Jamie Warren, said maintenance on the zone substation was required as equipment had failed which would prevent the use of the backup transformer at the site, if it was needed.

There are two transformers at the Ulan zone substation so that if the main one becomes inoperative, crews can restore power to customers using the backup transformer,” Jamie said.

Zone substations convert high voltage electricity to a level which can then be distributed to customers in the surrounding areas.

“This maintenance work is about replacing an electrical network switch which enables the backup transformer to be used if it is required,” Jamie said.

“Significant planning has been undertaken to reduce the number of planned power outages required for these works to one, and to minimise its duration. Given the number of customers affected by the planned outage and the type of work being undertaken, on this occasion we have also been able to schedule the works to be completed overnight to minimise the overall inconvenience of the outage on the wider community,” Jamie said.

The planned power outage will affect customers in parts of Cooks Gap, Cooyal, Gulgong, Kains Flat, Mudgee, Stubbo, Ulan, Wollar and surrounding areas

Essential Energy say that affected households and businesses have been notified.
