18 more rural crime officers will be deployed across regional NSW, including our local area to target country crime including stock theft, illegal hunting, stealing, trespass and firearms offenses.

New South Wales Police Minister, Troy Grant says that these additional officer with make a huge difference, taking their overall numbers to almost 60 across the state.

Mr Grant says that Cattle and sheep theft costs farmers at least $3 million last year alone with more than 20,000 animals reported stolen to police.

Based in Mudgee, Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside heads up the rural Crime Unit and has told our newsroom that at this stage it is not known exactly where the new officers will be stationed, however, says it will be an overall benefit to our region, with more officers to draw upon in response to incidents.
