A house has been left with major damage following a house fire on Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called around 6.45 Wednesday with reports of a 2-story house on Rocky Waterhole road on Fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Mudgee and Gulgong worked together with firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to bring the fire under control. Police and NSW Ambulance were also in attendance.

Fire & Rescue report that the resident was not home when the fire started.

They say he arrived home and noticed the smoke alarm going off and found smoke and fire on the upstairs level of the home, with the top floor totally destroyed by fire.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
