The new Mudgee Hospital was officially handed over to the Western NSW Local Health District on Tuesday.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said construction on the $70.7 million facility is due for completion at the end of the month, and final fit-out, exterior works and landscaping are underway.

“Mudgee Hospital is one of the health projects that has been fast tracked as a part of the COVID-19 response, and today is symbolic because it means we are one step closer to this part of the electorate having a brand new hospital,” he said.

“Significant amounts of money are being spent in Mudgee and Dubbo building and upgrading hospitals because we want the people in our region to have access to the modern health facilities they deserve.

“I’m delighted to have seen this new hospital develop and grow through every stage, right up to this point where it’s now being handed over to the LHD to start preparing for the official opening at the end of the month.”

Western NSW LHD chief executive Scott McLachlan said the handover is a big step forward for the region’s health sector.

“It’s a very exciting time for both the staff of the Mudgee Health Service and the wider Mudgee community,” Mr McLachlan said.

“This redevelopment will help ensure the hospital continues to provide high-quality healthcare for decades to come for the Mudgee region.”

The $70.7 million Mudgee Hospital Redevelopment will include an emergency department and ambulatory care, a maternity unit, general medical and surgical units, a peri-operative service, as well as oral health, renal dialysis and oncology services.
