Future NRL Matches In The Region

Mudgee hopes of holding a future NRL match in 2021 could possibly be given a boost with Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders named as chair of the NSW Government’s NRL Regional Taskforce, which was formed to develop a plan to bring more games to regional NSW.

Deputy Premier, John Barilaro, made the announcement during a visit to Dubbo yesterday, where Mr Saunders said it is an honour to be asked to chair the taskforce.

"The taskforce brings together a number of people to build ideas and opportunities for sport in the area, especially for occasions like the Charity Shield matches", he says.

Mr Saunders also outlined that his priority is to see Dubbo host an NRL premiership game in 2021

That Comment has been met with a response from an angry Mayor of the Mid-Western Region, with Des Kennedy telling 2MG news that he hopes that Mudgee is not forgotten in the process by “our” local member.

Mayor Kennedy says that with over $15m invested into Glen Willow, and the playing surface being one of the best in NSW, our region is still best placed to continue to host these matches.

The Member for Dubbo however told us that it’s NOT one or the other.
