Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has welcomed the announcement that Essential Energy will halt its plans to cut jobs in regional NSW.

Mr Saunders said he was pleased to announce that the proposed job cuts by Essential Energy, which included some in the Dubbo electorate, will not be going ahead.

He said for weeks he, the Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Nationals colleagues been calling on Essential Energy to abandon proposed job cuts,

and now Essential Energy workers across the region can go home to their families knowing their jobs are safe and their future is secure.

Meanwhile the Electrical Trades Union has also welcomed the announcement by NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean that he will issue a directive to publicly-owned electricity distributor Essential Energy ordering a halt to plans to slash 182 regional jobs.

ETU assistant secretary Ben Lister congratulated Mr Kean on the intervention, but also praised the efforts of Deputy Premier John Barilaro and many of his Nationals colleagues who have been fighting to save the jobs.

He said the unions members could not be happier with the announcement that the job cuts have been halted, and Energy Minister Matt Kean and Deputy Premier John Barilaro deserve genuine praise for their efforts to find a solution.
