Coming Changes To Bus Fares

The cost of public transport across the region is being reviewed, and we are able to offer our opinion.

Residents throughout regional and rural NSW are being encouraged to have their say on the cost of bus fares, to make travelling more affordable.

IPART NSW will set maximum fares that bus companies can charge for their services from January 2021 to December 2025.

IPART Tribunal Member, Deborah Cope, says they are “Aware that people have been doing it tough in rural and regional communities with drought, bushfires and now COVID-19, and want to ensure that fares are reasonable and services keep improving.”

Ms Cope also says they’re aim is to “Set fares so that people with limited transport options - such as those who can’t drive or can’t afford a car- have access to services.”

IPART will be releasing two issue papers as the first step in the review process, and asking residents to head to the State Government website to fill out a survey voicing their opinion of fares.

Anyone who is interested in the review can go to their website for more information and to consider filling in the survey or making a submission, which will close on August 7.
