Council-run pounds in our local area are receiving a $500,000 funding boost to help during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The money is set to cover costs such as staffing, veterinary and food bills.

Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock, says the funds can also be used for “capital works including minor site upgrades, maintenance works or the purchasing of new equipment to ensure that pounds remain viable and functional”.

A minimum of $4,000 will be paid to councils under the program, up to a maximum of $28,000, depending on the number of local government areas the pound supports.
