Five Feet Apart - A special Screening

posted May 15, 2019, 5:32 PM by 2MG Real FM
Town Hall Cinema presents a special screening of Five Feet Apart on Friday 24 May at 6.30pm

Starring Cole Sprouse (of Riverdale fame) and Haley Lu Richardson, Five Feet Apart tells the story of Will and Stella, two teenagers with Cystic Fibrosis who fall in love but medical restrictions dictate they must maintain a safe distance away from each other.

Tickets to the screening are $25 per person and include a glass of Vinifera wine, canapes and a ticket in the lucky door prize draw. Tickets can be purchased at Byrnes Jewellers on Market Street.

Monies raised from ticket sales will support Cystic Fibrosis Community Care NSW, a not-for profit organisation that provides financial assistance, advocacy, education and medical equipment support to individuals and families in NSW living with Cystic Fibrosis.

In Australia there are only 3,500 people living with CF, and despite being a small rural town, there are several families in the Mudgee region affected by the condition. One of them being my 4 year old son.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition that causes an abnormal amount of excessively thick and sticky mucus within the lungs, airways and digestive system. This causes impairment of the digestive function of the pancreas, and traps bacteria in the lungs resulting in recurrent infections which lead to irreversible damage. Lung failure is the major cause of death for someone with Cystic Fibrosis.

There is currently no cure, with medicine and treatment required daily in order to live a normal life.

May is 65 Roses month - a month where the CF community aims to raise awareness and funds. In the month of May alone, my 4 year old son will swallow no less than 320 digestive enzymes, 258 pills of other medications, 63mls of antibiotics, do 31 nebuliser treatments for approximate total of 8 hours, sit through 16 hours of physiotherapy, and undertake at least 31 hours of exercise to specifically encourage mucus movement out of his lungs.

Proudly supported by the generous and community minded Combined Rotary Clubs of Mudgee.
